Bedwetting in Children: A Normal Part of Growing Up

Bedwetting in Children: A Normal Part of Growing Up

If you are waking up to wet sheets and a discouraged child, you are not alone. Nocturnal enuresis (the medical term for bedwetting) is far more common than many parents realise.

In Australia alone, approximately 63,000 five-year-olds and 31,000 ten-year-olds wet the bed. It affects 1 in 5 five-year-olds and remains a reality for 1 in 10 ten-year-olds, occurring more frequently in boys than girls.

The most important thing to remember? Your child is healthy, normal, and simply developing at their own pace. Most children outgrow bedwetting naturally; after age five, about 15% of children stop wetting each year as their bodies mature.

Why Does Bedwetting Happen?

Urination is controlled by a complex "conversation" between the brain and the bladder. As children grow, this communication matures in stages:

  • 1–2 years: Children begin to sense when their bladder is full.

  • 2–3 years: They learn to voluntarily hold or release urine.

  • 3–4 years: Most develop adult-like control, staying dry day and night.

However, every child's "biological clock" is different. Bedwetting isn't a behavioural choice or a sign of laziness; it is often a developmental delay in the brain-bladder connection.

Many children who wet the bed are "deep sleepers." Their brains don't fully register the bladder’s "I’m full!" signal during the night. Instead of waking up to use the toilet, the pelvic floor muscles relax, and the bladder empties automatically.

Supporting Your Child with Urox® Junior

While patience is key, providing your child’s body with the right nutritional support can make a world of difference. Urox® Junior is a clinically proven, child-friendly formula designed to support bladder function and build nighttime confidence.

Unlike many options that only address symptoms, Urox® works to support the physical foundations of bladder control through a unique 3-fold effect:

  1. Strengthens Muscles: It supports the bladder (detrusor) and pelvic floor muscles.

  2. Calms Oversensitivity: It reduces "false alarms" from the bladder lining (urothelium).

  3. Stabilizes Signals: It promotes a healthy, proper nerve response between the brain and bladder, improving bladder control.

By improving muscle tone and nerve response, kids experience less urgency and frequency, helping them wake up dry and happy.

Tips for Easy Taking: No More "Pill Struggles"

We know that many children find swallowing capsules tricky. To keep your nighttime routine stress-free, you can easily open the Urox® Junior capsules and mix the powder with:

  • A "Juice Shot": Mix into a very small amount of their favorite juice.

  • Soft Foods: Sprinkle onto a spoonful of yogurt, or mix into a spread on a small portion of toast.

  • The Jelly Trick: Hide the powder in a small cube of jelly—a Favorite for many kids!

  • A Special Ritual: Let your child pick a "magic medicine spoon" to give them a sense of ownership over their progress.
